Bio: Madeleine Castellanos, MD
Psychiatrist, Sex Therapist & Sexologist
Dr. Castellanos is a first-generation Cuban-American with a passion for life and happiness. She fulfilled her childhood dream of studying medicine and was licensed in the practice of medicine and surgery. She then went on to specialize in psychiatry where she obtained training in a variety of psychotherapies. After seeing a need in the psychiatric community for doctors who could comprehensively address issues of sexuality and sexual dynamics, she furthered her training by becoming an expert in sexology. She continues to work in adult psychiatry, but has dedicated her private practice to the specialty of sex therapy and sexology for those couples and individuals wanting to address any difficulties they have in the area of sexuality, or enhance their sex life and their experience of sex. Dr. Castellanos has a love of teaching, with a philosophy of infinite possibilities hand in hand with health and balance. She brings together her professional knowledge of medicine and the human body with the unconscious mind and the psyche to have a thorough understanding of sexuality, our own personal anxieties, and how this is translated into our relationships. She is a professor of psychiatric residents and medical students, as well as a source for community lectures and workshops. Being bilingual with fluent Spanish, as well as intimate knowledge of the Latin-American culture, she is also an important resource for the Spanish-speaking community in the area of sexuality. Her goal is to have people dialogue more openly about sex and sexuality by decreasing the anxiety and misunderstandings which still exist about sexuality today.
